Comparison

Generated hardware vs off-the-shelf

Generated hardware is dimensioned from your measurements and produced in a batch run, so it fits exactly and costs a modest premium over a comparable catalogue product. Off-the-shelf arrives in two days, costs less, and fits whatever the designer assumed about your desk.

What we build, and why

Buy off-the-shelf when the standard size fits. Generate when it does not — a riser that is 40 mm too tall is not a compromise you notice once, it is one you notice every day.

Where generation genuinely wins

Anywhere a single dimension decides whether the object works: the thickness of your desk top for a clamp, the thickness of your phone with its case, the height between your desk and your seated eye line. These are the measurements no catalogue can know, and getting them wrong makes the product mildly useless rather than obviously broken.

It also wins on repeatability. Every generated part carries a revision hash of its parameters and material, so ordering four more in eighteen months produces four identical parts rather than four near-misses.

Where it does not

If the standard size fits you, generation is a worse deal: you pay more and wait longer for the same object. We would rather say that here than have you find out after the order.

It is also the wrong route for anything you need tomorrow, and for anything you want to try and send back. Made-to-parameter hardware cannot be restocked, which is why our returns policy is narrower than a shop’s.

Frequently asked

Three to six weeks. The design is generated in seconds; the production run and the sea freight are what take the time.
